The best 20 weeks old gift

I must the proudest mum in the whole wide world! My baby girl who turns 20 weeks old today rewarded me with rolling over for the very first time! Boy, did she take her time, but the wait was most definitely worth it!

She rolled over from her back to her front then complained when her arm got stuck under her! It is absolutely hilarious and exhilarating watching her rolling around! She took some cajoling but she repeated it numerous time after that. I think she has mastered rolling from her back to her front as long as it is on soft surface because no amount of cajoling will get her to roll on the floor.

On a more sombre note, I must be extra careful when leaving Penny unattended especially as she can roll at will now. Mustn't let her fall off the couch again or I'll be the worst mummy ever!

Now, I can't help but wonder when she will roll from her front onto her back. Penny must have gotten it all mixed up as most babies roll from front to back around 4 months and from back to front around 6 months. Guess she is keeping up her rebellious nature. LOL.

The dreaded jabs

Penny has her 3rd lot of jabs today to immunise her against Hib, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough, Polio, Pneumococcal & Meningitis C. I wasn't looking forward to it as it at all. As a matter of fact, I forgot all about her appointment till I received a reminder yesterday afternoon.

Penny didn't like her first two jabs as she cried her both time. She didn't wail her head of or anything but she still cried out when she got stabbed with the needles. On both occasion she bled a little, had a little cry then fell asleep. She didn't get any temperature or side effect, but that doesn't make me taking her to her 3rd jab any easier.

I was happy when Nicole said she would go with me. We waited a few minutes for her to be called and I kept myself distracted while waiting. When we got into the the nurses' room, armed with Penny's plug (I mean dummy) in one hand and holding on to her firmly with the other hand I tried to distract her and no look when the nurse stabbed Penny. It was over in a flash but Penny wasn't pleased. She cried and cried until I managed to turn her and have her facing me.

I was glad that Nicole was there to push the pram while I held Penny to my chest. Since birth, chest-to-chest with Penny always calmed her down. She still has a little tears and a little sob when we left the clinic, crossed the road and got into co-op to do some retail therapy (for me). She was a lot better by the time we left the store and she fell asleep almost immediately once I put her into her pram. She was so tired / groggy from the jab, she slept all the way home despite mummy being a bad driver with her pram and she stayed asleep in her pram for a good 30 mins after we got home! Well done Penny for being a brave girl!

Weetabix & mashed banana

I've never been much of a Weetabix fan and down right lying if I say I like it. I've tried it twice and both time I found it dry, tasteless and frankly not that different from chewing on a piece cardboard. So, imagine my dismay when I found out I had to buy some for Penny.

As part of our commitment to the EAT Study,  I've started weaning Penny early and began introducing new food into her diet with hopes that she will not develop any allergies later in life. We've introduced baby rice, cow's milk yoghurt (petit filous), fish, peanut butter, tahini and egg to her over the past 3 weeks and the last on the list is wheat.

We were given instructions on what, when & the amount to introduce as well as some recipes to make the weaning process easier. When it came to introducing wheat, it was suggested that we should mix Weetabix with hot water and mash banana for some natural sweetness in hopes that Penny will like it.

Penny's verdict? She wasn't bothered and refused to eat her food today. Why? She has recently discovered how to blow raspberries (no thanks to my husband) and has decided that blowing raspberries during meal time is fun! After 15 minutes of trying to, I finally gave up despite having 80% of her Weetabix & banana mix left, a huge disappointment compared to Tuesday when she hate 3/4 of her Weetabix & banana mix.

Remembering what my mum used to say to me about not wasting food, I decided to finish off the weetabix & banana mix. Did it affect my feelings for Weetabix? Not really. I'm still not keen on it although I'd say the mash banana improved the flavour significantly. Having said that, that mixture was pretty sticky & gluey not different from pre-soaked cardboard flavoured with banana. Would I eat it again? Only if it helps encourage Penny to eat her Weetabix.

Taking the plunge

Having recently read an old article on BBC about  the rise and rise of the 'mummy bloggers', I've decided to take the plunge and join the bandwagon. Of course that is easier said than done as I'm a complete novice at blogging and utterly useless at making myself sound coherent.

On top of that, I have to decide on what to blog about other than my journeys of being a mother, a wife and stay at home mum. Surely there are lots of topics I can cover other than my mundane life like how I aspire to be a yummy mummy but truth be told, who has the energy and  the time? These days, I barely get out of my comfy top & pants and looks more and more like a crazy cat lady with questionable personal hygiene!

Born with a competitive streak, I can't help but wonder how I can jazz up my blog to attract more readers and make my blog popular. Then I worry about attracting weirdos, stalkers, paedophiles, etc probing into my life, reading about my family & my most intimate thoughts! Catch 22? Hmm, I wonder.

If anyone think they are going to live vicariously through my blog, I'd like to apologise in advance that my life is boring and probably not worth reading about. However, if for some reason you are reading my blog and haven't close it by now, I'd like to thank you for your time. I'd promise that I'll try to ramble less and be more coherent, but then again, what fun would that be?
